Dawn's Bio

Dawn began teaching piano in 1990 at the requests of friends through a community education program in northern Minnesota.  She quickly realized she both loved teaching and loved working with kids of all ages. She currently teaches between 25 and 30 students in weekly private and group lessons, studying not only piano repertoire, but also partnering with current technology to teach theory concepts.

Dawn graduated from Bethel College in 1977 with a BA in music with an emphasis in organ.  She has played in local Twin Cities churches, doing both organ and piano and has directed children's choirs and musicals.  While working as an organist, a church very generously gave Dawn a folk harp, which she used to play for many events for over 12 years in northern Minnesota.  She also traveled to Chicago, Illinois & Roseau, Minnesota to do organ dedication recitals. She now plays piano in more contemporary applications (lead sheets, improvisation) and continues to love working with piano students in her studio.  She currently is taking courses to work towards her certification in pedagogy.  She is a member of the National Federation of Music Teachers (NFMT) as well as a member of the Association of Professional Piano Instructors (APPI)

Dawn's love of music, love of children and love of God drives her to work hard towards helping students find the joy and delight in music and to use that music both for their own advancement, but also to bring joy to others and ultimately joy to God.
